It's not a new story. Just fresh copy today in USA Today, in a story written by their national baseball writer, Bob Nightengale. Ken Griffey, Jr. is talking about the possibility of leaving the Cincinnati Reds. Junior has been singing this since spring training. He's a 10-5 guy (ten years in the league, five with the same team) so he can veto any trade. My gut tells me the Reds will look for a way to restructure his contract and avoid paying him the $16 million they owe him next season. Perhaps, they'll do a long term deal (three years) and allow him to retire as a Red. But everything is in play, when a team is under achieving. Even trading its hometown superstar.

Those who claim the Bengals will eventually trade Johnson do not know Mike Brown. Brown will trade Johnson ONLY when Brown wants to, and he doesn't remotely right now. History, people: it took Corey Dillon four years of whining to get out of Cincinnati and Carl Pickens five.

No way Chad gets out of town in four months. Remember, the Bengals can fie Johnson $14,000 per DAY for any time missed at mandatory events, such as training camps, practices and game days. Mike Brown will MAKE money, if Johnson elects to sit out.

Meantime, the Bengals pursuit of hometown hero, Shaun Alexander got a bit more complicated. NFL Network's web site says Alexander may have options.

You know, I lived through the 70's when 'streaking' was a big deal. At Ohio, it was almost a right of spring. You'd see streakers on Saturday nights all the time. It even happened once, at the Academy Awards, when David Niven was attempting to present a trophy. His 'shortcomings' joke is Oscar lore. I thought it'd died down. But apparently not at the World Pool Championship, where the contestants were 'snookered' shall we say. Take a look.

Things that make you go hmmmm (as another famouse Ohio University alum once said). Could a trade be in the works between the Reds and Braves involving Ken Griffey, Jr. Check out this, from today's Atlanta Journal Constitution.

Clearly, if the Reds want to get phenom Jay Bruce in the big league line-up in 2008, one of two things have to happen. They'll have to move one of their outfielders to first base and trade another phenom, Joey Votto. Or, they'll have to trade one of their outfielders. If its an off season trade, the only candidates are Junior and Josh Hamilton. Adam Dunn's contract stipulates that he can NOT be traded until June 15th and even then, only to a select number of teams. Would the Reds entertain offers for Junior? Why not? He's clearly on 'the back nine' and will make $12.5 million in 2008, with a bunch of deferred money coming after he retires.

Any deal will have to have Junior's approval. He's a "10-5" guy, ten years in the majors with five consecutive years with the same club. My guess is, if it's Atlanta, he'll seriously consider accepting the trade, as it's close to his home in Orlando. But will Bob Castellini have the guts to OK it, knowing Junior is one of his big gate draws?
